  • 21 cattle burnt alive

    A fire gutted at least five houses at Monglu Shahpara village in Khansama upazila on Monday night. During the incident nine cows and 12 goats were also burnt alive.

  • Rabindra UNIV ACTIVITIES begin

    Academic activities of Rabindra University kick off on the temporary campus of Shahzadpur Mahila Degree College in Sirajganj yesterday. Vice Chancellor Bishwajit Ghosh inaugurated the activities. A total of 105 students got admission to the university. This is the 35th public university in Bangladesh. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of the university on May 8 in 2015.

  • Mother with kid kills self under running train

    A woman and her two-year-old son died as she jumped under a running train with the kid in her arms in Gafargaon upazila yesterday. The deceased are Liza Akhter, 25, wife of Rajib Dhali of Dhamail village, and their only son Yeasin Ahmed, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Shafiqul Islam, also in-charge of Government Railway Police (GRP) station, Gafargaon.

    The body of a youth was found floating on a pond in Surkilmil Colony area in the town yesterday. The victim was Saiful Islam Biplob,19, son of Abdul Hannan of the area.

    A housewife was killed allegedly by her dowry greedy husband at Kachua village in Jashore Sadar upazila on Monday night. The deceased, Rahela Begum, 25, was married to fish trader Hero Hossain of Kachua village 14 years ago, family sources said.

  • Missing madrasa boy found dead

    A missing madrasa boy was found dead in Barguna's Amtoli upazila yesterday. The deceased was Md Maruf, 11, a student of Class II of Tafhimul Quran Cadet Madrasa in the upazila.

    Two cases have been filed with Sadarpur Police Station against 638 people in connection with the clash that left one killed and 50 others injured on Monday. Police arrested 29 people.
