State Minister for Post and Telecommunication Tarana Halim said the SIMs used by physically challenged people which are yet to have biometric re-registration will not be deactivated on May 1. Star file photo

State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim today said the government will not extend the deadline for re-registration of SIM cards with biometric data.

The minister said this after inaugurating five re-registration points inside the Secretariat for all its officials.

She added that all the mobile operators are successfully sharing and using over 1 lakh fingerprint scanning devices for the re-registration.

Tarana informed that over 6.35 lakh SIMs have already been registered as of Monday and hoped that all the other remaining SIMs will be re-registered within the given time.

Those who will fail to do so will face temporary deactivation of their numbers, followed by a text message to re-register immediately.
