The deceased was identified as Amirul Islam, 40, son of Jabed Ali from Sadar upazila and said to be a leader of Gono Bahini, our local correspondent reports quoting police.

District’s Detective Branch Officer-in-Charge Sabbirul Islam said lawmen cracked down on Kushtia-Rajbari highway receiving intelligence on a robbery-in-progress around 2:30am.

“Police told them to surrender, but instead they opened gunfire. Lawmen were compelled to fire back. Amirul came in the line of fire and suffered four bullet wound,” he said.
