Theatre troupe Aranyak Natyadal has organised a month-long festival to commemorate its 53rd anniversary this year, featuring a series of performances and events. The celebrations will take place at the Mahila Samiti Auditorium and the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), beginning tomorrow.
Today two theatre troupes are set to perform street plays at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), advocating for the safety of theatre artistes. This protest is in response to the cancellation of the play “Nityapurana” on November 2, as well as the subsequent attack on renowned thespian Mamunur Rashid during a demonstration led by Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation (BGTF) activists.
Following the attack, the theater group Aranyak Natyadal decided to cancel the scheduled 7:00pm performance of their play Company at the main auditorium of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Recently, the actor has been busy working across three different mediums—drama, film, and music. He is currently stationed in Shailkupa, Jhenaidah, where he is shooting a new short film titled “Nodai”, which centres around the lives of fishermen.
After almost three months of closure, theatrical performances are set to resume today on a limited scale at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital. Bangladesh Theatre's production of "Sea Morog" will be performed at the National Theatre Hall auditorium on this inaugural day.
To mark the 101st birth anniversary of the late Syed Badruddin Hossain, an eminent educationist, a language movement veteran, and lifetime chairman of Padatik Nattya Sangsad (TSC), a four-day long theatre festival titled "Syed Badruddin Hossain Smrity Natyautsab o Smarak Sammanona 2024" is set to take place at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) on May 16. This theatre festival has been orchestrated annually since 2010.
Mamunur Rashid himself is part of the cast of this theatrical play. The artiste stated that staging a play on Eid is a record-making event in the country.
The play is centred around a timeline of 1744-1757 when British imperialism began to spread around the globe, especially the Indian subcontinent, to consciously rule them.
Adding to this he also mentioned that he is one of the witnesses of this incident and took a photo of the ongoing fire. “When I was capturing this moment, my heart was wrenching, and I was in tears while being a witness of such a moment. The air of Bailey Road is still filled with the smell of smoke. Alas! Bailey Road.”
Since December 22, Aranyak has been staging the play continuously for six days at various theatre halls across Kolkata, including Kalyani Mancha in the city, as well as in Madhyamgram and Belgharia in West Bengal, India.
Acclaimed actor Chanchal Chowdhury is all set to grace the stages of Kolkata once again by wielding the powerful play "Radhang", after a decade-long pause. Known for his National Film Award-winning performances and cherished by audiences in both Bengals, Chowdhury's journey back to his theatrical roots marks a significant milestone in his illustrious career.
Aly Zaker's journey in the world of performing arts began with a fateful encounter with Mamunur Rashid. Their professional partnership kicked off in 1971 at Swadhin Bangla Betar, where they both embarked on their creative endeavours.
National Award-winning actress Tamalika Karmaker has been a part of theatre for almost 30 years. She began her journey with “Pathor”, directed by Azizul Hakim and produced by Aranyak Natyadal. For the theatre troupe’s 50th anniversary, Tamalika is all set to return to the stage and is already taking part in rehearsals.
Famed theatre troupe Aranyak Natyadal is gearing up to celebrate its 50th founding anniversary with a plethora of cultural programmes and theatre plays. Noted actor Mamunur Rashid, a member of the event organising committee, confirmed the news at the press conference for the event, held yesterday at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s Seminar Hall.
Noted actor Fazlur Rahman Babu is an invaluable addition to the already glittering silver screen of the country. Be it films, music, or television dramas, the actor has made his place in the hearts of the audience through his marvelling performance. The “Dui Diner Duniya” actor, who gained multiple National Film awards over the years, had been a part of the theatre troupe, Aranyak Natyadal, since starting his acting career. Despite being part of a larger spread of visual media, Babu never failed to return his love to the theatre stage.
