AL rally begins near south gate of Baitul Mukarram
The ruling Awami League's peace rally started near the south gate of National Mosque Baitul Mukarram around 2:30pm.
Dhaka City (North and South units) AL organised the rally, protesting BNP-Jamaat's "terrorism, militancy, anarchy and continued anti-state conspiracy".
Leaders and activists of different units of the party started thronging the venue since 1:30pm.
Strict security measures have been taken centring the rally and vehicular movement from Gulistan police box intersection to GPO intersection has been suspended since 1:30pm.
Speaking at the rally, Office Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Barrister Biplab Barua, said that BNP's one-point demand is to burn people alive and overthrow the elected government.
Among others, AL presidium members Abdur Rahman, Zahangir Kabir Nanak, Advocate Quamrul Islam, Joint general secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim are present at the rally.
AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, will address the rally as chief guest.
