BNP today deferred its March 11 rally by a day, which will be held at Suhrawardy Udyan, Dhaka, demanding release of its Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.
“We are deferring our rally to March 12,” Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Senior Joint Secretary General of BNP, said at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.
Rizvi, however, did not say any specific reason for rescheduling the date.
The BNP leader said they have sent letters to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner and Public Works department seeking permission for holding the rally.
“We expect that they will give us permission this time to hold the rally,” he said.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia landed on jail on February 8 following a court verdict that convicted her for five years imprisonment for corruption allegation.
