Individuals, private, semi-government, autonomous, religious and educational institutions grabbed 4,391 acres of railway land, Rail Minister Mujibul Haque said today.

Of the total grabbed land, 3,378 acres railway land has been illegally grabbed by different private organizations and individuals, the minister said at parliament.

In a scripted reply, the minister also informed the House that a total of 922.34 acres of railway land was grabbed by different government, semi government and autonomous institutions.

Different religious and educational institutions grabbed over 90.83 acres of railway land, he added.

The railway minister did not mention names of the grabbers.

On the recovery of railway land, the minister informed that between October 2015 to March 2016, railway authority recovered 132.19 acres land from the grabbers.

The minister also informed that efforts are going on to recover rest of the land taking the assistance of local representatives and local administrations.
