Journo Farhad Murder

HC to deliver verdict on October 16

The High Court will deliver its verdict on October 16 in the sensational case of journalist Farhad Khan murder, in which two persons were sentenced to death.

The HC bench of Justice Md Ruhul Quddus and Justice ASM Abdul Mobin fixed the date for delivering the judgement, after concluding the hearing on the death reference and appeals in the case on Thursday.

Farhad Khan, 60, senior assistant editor of Bangla daily Janata, and his wife Rahima Khanam, 55, were killed in their rented flat in Nayapaltan area in the capital on January 28, 2011.

Following the killings, Abdus Samad Khan, younger brother of Farhad, filed a case with Paltan Police Station accusing unknown persons.

On October 11, 2012, a Dhaka court gave death sentence to two persons for murdering journalist Farhad and his wife Rahima.

The condemned convicts are Nazimuzzaman Yon, a nephew of the slain journalist Farhad Khan, and Razu Ahmad, a friend of Yon.

Judge ABM Sajedur Rahman of Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 of Dhaka had handed down the verdict.

Yon and Razu, who are now in jail, filed separate appeals with the HC challenging the trial court verdict on them.

Advocate Munsurul Hoque Chowdhury and Advocate Abdul Matin Khasru appeared for Yon and Razu, while Deputy Attorney General Moniruzzaman Rubel argued for the state.
