TRUMP'S IMMIGRATION BAN LIFTED
Travelers from the seven Muslim majority countries can now travel to the US, as a federal judge in Seattle suspended President Donald Trump's travel ban. After promulgation of the ban, US visa authorities cancelled up to 60,000 visas from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Sudan, Somalia, Libya and Yemen. With this executive order, Trump also ordered not to allow any refugee to enter the US, at least for 120 days and barred Syrian refugees indefinitely. However, after getting rejected by the federal court, Trump decided to appeal to the higher court to reconsider the verdict.
THE DEATH OF SURANJIT SEN GUPTA
The eternal departure of Suranjit Sen Gupta shocked Bangladesh's political arena. Politicians irrespective of their political affiliation paid homage to him for his knowledge on Bangladesh's constitution and parliamentary democracy. Gupta died of lung infection on February 5, 2017 at the age of 72. At the end of his political career he aroused controversy as sacks full of bank currency were recovered from his microbus and, the driver who surrendered the money to the law enforcers, went missing. However, he served as a minister without portfolio until his death.
THE DISGUSTING HUMAN BRIDGE
A photo of the headmaster of a school along with the Upazila chairman of Haimchar in the Chandpur district gleefully walking on the shoulders of lined up young children caused an outrage on social media. A guardian filed a case against five people, including the chairman. However, the chairman claimed that it is the custom of this school and he did not force them to form the human bridge. People from all walks of life appealed to the education ministry to investigate the matter and punish the responsible so that this kind of barbaric incident does not occur ever again.
