Tigers looking to bowl economically
Tigers have newfound confidence in their batting after they chased down 215 runs to pull off the fourth biggest chase in T20 history but the Tigers bowlers had given away runs which can put to the team to sword as they look to capitalize on their belief and Mahmudullah Riyad suggests that the bowlers can certainly improve and put a squeeze on the opposition batsmen.
While 214 is a lot of runs, having chased down a target like that gives a boost to batsmen like Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad. However, the team's think tank also know that it is ideal to keep runs in check and then rely on the batsmen to work wonders in a tournament which has favoured batsmen.
He suggested that bowlers may give away runs but damage limitation is key on batting friendly wickets.
"We have to consider the batting-friendly wickets that all the bowlers have been facing in this tournament. It has a lot to do about damage limitation," Mahmudullah said.
He pointed out that during the Sri Lanka match there was a period between over seven to over nine where Nazmul Islam and Mehedi Miraz were able to dry up boundaries. Riyad felt that efforts were necessary but that if bowlers can step up then it will help Tigers win.
"You must have seen that when Apu and Miraz were bowling in the last game, there was a span of 20-odd balls when they stopped the boundaries. I still feel we have to step up our efforts, which I feel our bowlers can do.
"Playing in the final was always our goal," Riyad concluded.
Tigers will play India in the next match on March 14.
