Who will listen to the woes of trainee doctors?

The trainee doctors at BSMMU have been demanding an increase of monthly allowance from Tk 20,000 to Tk 50,000 – a demand which is justified.

Reckless biking

In the last two years, the number of motorcycles in Comilla has increased 2 to 3 times than what it was before. Inexperienced people, especially young boys are driving bikes at very high speeds honking horns loudly. Indian bikes are smuggled into Comilla through the border. Prices of these bikes are almost half of their market price. Availability of low-priced bikes, ignorance of guardians and poor traffic laws are responsible for this situation. People here are now at high risk of accidents. Will the authorities look into the matter?

“Govt found not serious”(April 30, 2014)

SM
Supply the same groceries, meats, and fruits to Gono Bhaban and Bangabhaban for their 10 courses of meals.

Saint
It is one of the major problems in our country. We are going to produce mutated generations in future.

Taufiq
There are so many occasions when court summoned the respective authorities to explain their failure, but nothing happened after that.

“Trial targeted freedom fighter officers” (April 29, 2014)

Mofi
Can't we review and edit the sub-clause 5 of Article 102 of the Constitution? It sounds unfair not having a chance to appeal and HC's not having jurisdiction to exercise power on the application of any person aggrieved by the action of a military court. May I request a knowledgeable lawyer (or whoever has expertise on this) to comment on that?

OpeeMonir
This nation is haunted by so many injustices.

SM
And AL supported Ershad; we see the symbiotic relationship thriving till today.

Where life's cheaper than commodity

Bangladesh has a $20 billion garment industry, said a Washington Post article, “A year after Rana Plaza: What hasn't changed since the Bangladesh factory collapse.” A study at La Trobe University in Australia found that more than 78 percent of Bangladesh's export earnings come from the garment industry. The World Bank's website shows Bangladesh's 2012 GDP as $115.6 billion and a huge portion of that comes from the garment industry.
Often when there are fires in garment factories, most exits are locked so that employees do not steal garments during the evacuation. Garment manufacturing companies seem to value their product more than the health and safety of their employees.

“310 killed, disappeared”(April 29, 2014)

Dr Abdul Qader
I believe the role of investigative journalists is to find out the exact cases. Widespread abductions are happening and common people are not feeling safe. My brother was abducted recently and got release after a ransom of 4 lakh taka was paid. One cannot rule out the possibility of a nexus between the law enforcement agencies and the outlaws/ abductors. Otherwise, how come they roam around so freely?

Hardreality
The number of disappearances is big enough to hold the government accountable for their utter negligence. But if BNP keeps going on feeding people lies to make the matter more serious, soon people will take their accusation very lightly.

Boston heroes with a mission

The Annual Boston Marathon turned into nightmare last year when two blasts killed three people and injured hundreds more. Before the dust from the explosion even cleared, heroes emerged, including a group of marathoners who kept running to donate blood at a nearby hospital. The only question on their mind was “How can I help?”

“Abduction all around,” published on April 29, 2014

Jafar Iqbal
The fall of AL government is going to happen from these abnormal abduction cases.

Dr Abdul Qader
Oh my God, is it now happening all over the country? It's so obvious.  Since the terrorists are roaming openly in Dhaka city, they have more access to other places too. Alas, where is the country heading? Establishing rule of law is utterly important now.

Taufiq
With the progress of the country, the security apparatus is also supposed to improve. Apparently, it is heading in the opposite direction, which implies that either the government is involved in these abductions or not vigilant enough to stop it. Either way, the ruling party has to bear the responsibility.

Stopping the brain drain

There is no dearth of engineers in Bangladesh. We have a good number of diploma institutes and UGC-approved private universities that are producing engineers. Then, why can't we construct quality buildings, bridges, etc.? Unplanned constructions all over the country are ruining our beautiful landscape.
