2 new divisions on the cards
The government is set to make two new divisions named Padma and Meghna, which will include the districts in Faridpur and Cumilla regions respectively.
The issue has been kept on the agenda of the meeting of the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reforms (NICAR) next Sunday, confirmed an official of the Cabinet Division.
"The matter will be discussed and if the committee gives its nod, two new divisions will be introduced," he said.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will preside over the meeting.
There are currently eight divisions -- Barishal, Chattogram, Dhaka, Khulna, Mymensingh, Rajshahi, Rangpur and Sylhet -- in the country.
The PM on October 21, 2021, said she wants to upgrade Faridpur and Cumilla to two new divisions and name them after two major rivers, Padma and Meghna.
