BCL postpones strike at RU
The strike at the Rajshahi University protesting the killing of a Bangladesh Chhatra League leader has been postponed till April 29.
Bangladesh Chhatra League enforced the strike from April 5, a day after Rustam Ali Akanda, former BCL joint secretary of the Suhrawardy Hall unit at the university, was shot dead at the dormitory.
The BCL leaders of the RU unit today announce the put off their strike at a press briefing held at the central cafeteria of the university, reports our RU correspondent.
The BCL men had been carrying on with the strike for the last four consecutive days demanding immediate arrest of the main masterminds behind the killing and ban on politics of Islami Chhatra Shibir on the campus.
At the briefing, BCL RU unit General Secretary SM Tawhid Al Hossain Tuhin said, “We have been asked to withdraw the strike in the interest of the smooth operation of the academic activities on the campus.”
“We will announce a fresh course of action programme after April 29 if the university authorities are failed to meet our demand within the timeframe,” the BCL leader added.
The BCL leader did not make its stance clear before the media despite having queries over immediate withdrawal of the strike programme.
Earlier, Mizanur Rahman, the BCL RU unit president announced the strike for indefinite period on April 4 hours after killing of its hall unit leader Rustam Ali Akanda, 22, a fourth year student of political science department of the university.
