Torch processions brought out at DU protesting communal attacks
Protesters from different groups brought out separate torch processions at Dhaka University campus this evening protesting the recent communal attacks across the country.
A group of students under the banner 'Dhaka University's General Students' brought out a torch procession from the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of the university around 7:30pm.
Tanvir Hasan Saikat, a former member of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU), led the procession that paraded different streets on the campus, reports our DU correspondent.
After the procession, they held a rally on the campus where they demanded exemplary punishment of the attackers after arresting them.
While talking to reporters, Saikat said they will wear black badge on the DU campus on October 19 and 20 for the punishment of attackers.
He also said they will hold a black flag procession at Raju Sculpture and Aparajeyo Bangla of the university.
Protesting the same incident, over 100 students under the banner 'Chhatra Odhikar Parishad' took out the procession with torches in their hands from Raju Memorial Sculpture this evening that ended at Central Shaheed Minar after parading different streets on the campus.
They held a rally at Raju Memorial Sculpture before the procession.
Talking to this correspondent, Akram Hossain, general secretary of parishad's Dhaka University unit, said they want judicial inquiry into the communal attacks, exemplary punishment for the attackers and security for minorities.
A platform under the banner of 'Shahbagh against oppression' also brought out another torch procession from Shahbagh and marched different streets of the Dhaka University this evening over the same demand. The Gonojagoron Mancha arranged the programme, added our correspondent.
