Sohel Chowdhury murder: Ashish Roy now charged with narcotics case
Police have pressed charges against Ashish Roy Chowdhury, accused in actor Sohel Chowdhury murder case, in another case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
Shamim Hossain, a sub-inspector of Gulshan Police Station and also investigation officer of the case, today (July 25, 2022) submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka.
Twelve people have been made prosecution witnesses in the charge sheet, HM Sohel Rana, a constable who is now working at CMM Court's General Recording Office, confirmed The Daily Star.
In the charge sheet, the IO said the charges brought against Ashish Roy of possessing foreign alcohol at his residence were primarily proved and he should be brought under trial for committing such offences.
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on April 5 arrested Ashish from his Gulshan home in Dhaka. They also seized 17 bottles of foreign alcohol from his residence.
Following the seizure, Jahangir Alam, deputy assistant director of Rab-10, filed the case with Gulshan Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act.
On December 18, 1998, Sohel Chowdhury was shot dead by miscreants at Trumps Club in Abedin Tower, in Dhaka's Banani area.
