Court issues travel ban on Alesha Mart chairman, 3 others
A Dhaka court today issued a travel ban on Alesha Mart Chairman Md Monzur Alam Sikder and three others in a case filed with Banani Police Station over laundering Tk 421 crore collected from the customers.
The three others are Monzur's wife Sadia Chowdhury, Md Al Mamun, the owner of SK Traders, and Abul Kashem, the chairman of the proposed People's Bank Ltd.
Judge Md Asaduzzaman of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court passed the order after Md Moniruzzaman, an inspector of Criminal Investigation Department and also the investigation officer of the case, submitted an application in this connection.
The judge also directed authorities concerned to freeze all properties of Alesha Mart, an e-commerce company.
In the petition, the IO said that following the case, there is a chance that Monzur and three others might leave the country to avoid arrest.
The judge also directed the police authorities to send the order sheet to the Chief of the Special Branch (immigration) to take further steps in this regard.
On May 16, CID's Assistant Superintendent of Police Al Mamun filed a case against them with Banani Police Station.
