Road accidents kill 7 in 3 districts
Seven people were killed and three others were injured in separate road accidents in Thakurgaon, Tangail, Faridpur districts today (July 8, 2022) and yesterday.
Of the deceased, three were from Tangail and two each from Thakurgaon, Faridpur.
In Thakurgaon, two people were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a diesel-run three wheeler on the Thakurgaon-Panchagarh highway in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila early today.
The victims were identified as three-wheeler driver Khalilur Rahman (60) of Khalishakuri village and Parvez (35) of Kumarpur village of the upazila, reports our local correspondent quoting Md Keramat Ali, officer-in-charge of Moidandighi Highway Police Station.
The accident happened when a Thakurgaon-bound truck collided with the three wheeler at Bhulli village around 11:30pm.
Khalilur died on the spot while Parvez succumbed to his injuries on way to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital, he said.
A case was filed at Thakurgaon Police Station in this connection, the OC added.
In Tangail, three people were killed and one was injured on Dhaka-Tangail Highway in Mirzapur and Ghatail upazilas of Tangail this morning.
Two of the deceased were identified as Fizur (35) and his paternal cousin Ariful Islam (36). They hail from Natore.
Belal Hossain, sub-inspector (SI) of Gorai Highway Police Station, said the two cousins were returning home on a motorcycle for Eid celebration, repots our local correspondent.
When their motorcycle reached Jamurki area of Mirzapur upazila on the highway around 8am, it was hit by an unknown transport from behind.
Hafizur died on the spot and Ariful also died after being taken to the hospital with injuries, added the police official.
Sources at Ghatail Police Station said an unidentified person was killed and another was injured after a truck hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Kadamtali area of Ghatail around 8:30am.
In Faridpur, two passengers of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw were killed and two other passengers were injured after the auto-rickshaw turned turtle after being hit by a truck on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway in Madhukhali upazila of Faridpur last night.
One of the two victims was identified as Amit Joardar (28), son of Amol Joarda of Paturia village in Magura Sadar upazila. Identity of the other victim could not be known yet.
Kanaipur Highway Police Station Officer-in-charge Kanakon Biswas confirmed the development to our Faridpur correspondent.
The injured –- Russell (32) and Hasan Mahmud (27) were admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital in Faridpur.
OC Kanakon Biswas said an auto-rickshaw overturned on Dhaka-Khulna highway at Arkandi around 10:30pm yesterday after a Dhaka-bound fish laden truck hit it. The auto-rickshaw caught on fire at that time.
A passenger died on the spot and another was taken to Madhukhali Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared him dead, said the OC.
The truck was seized from the spot, added the police official.
