Nusrat murder suspect placed on 5-day remand

Another held

A Feni court placed an Alim examinee, Kamrun Nahar Moni, on a five-day remand today, hours after she was arrested in connection with Nusrat murder case.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Shoraf Uddin Ahmed passed the remand order after Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) produced her before the court around 12noon with a 10-day remand prayer, a correspondent from Feni reports.

Moni, was arrested from a village in Feni last night, was among the five who directly took part in the killing, said PBI Inspector Md Shah Alam.

In another development, another suspect Md Shariful Islam alias Sharif was arrested from Dhaka’s Kamrangirchar last night for his alleged involvement with the incident, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports.

The PBI made the arrest following the information revealed by Nuruddin and Shahdat Hosen Shamim, who were arrested earlier and confessed to their involvement during interrogation, the daily added.

The arrestee was giving a statement before a Feni court till last reported around 5:00pm.

With the arrests, a total of 16 people was arrested in this connection.

Madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi lost her battle for life last night, five days after she was set afire at a madrasa in Feni -- an incident that touched off outrage all over the country.

On April 6, a group of five unidentified persons poured kerosene on the 18-year-old girl and set her afire on April 6 allegedly for refusing to withdraw a case against the principal of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa over sexual assault on her late last month.
