Dialogue with president: JSD for new law on forming EC
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Inu) today submitted a seven-point proposal including enactment of a law for forming of the new Election Commission (EC) to the President Abdul Hamid.
JSD in its seven-point proposal, recommended for enactment of the law in line with the Section 118 of the country’s supreme charter, the party’s General Secretary Shirin Akhter told journalists at a press briefing at the Bangabhaban in Dhaka after a dialogue with the president.

The party also recommended the president to form EC comprising of dignitaries with a belief in the spirit of country’s Liberation War and confidence on the four basic principles mentioned in the constitution, she said.
During the talks the president hoped constructive opinions of different political parties will help forming a strong EC, says a press release issued from The Bangabhaban this evening.

Led by Information Minister and JSD President Hasanul Haq Inu, a 12-member delegation submitted the proposal during the dialogue.
Earlier, the president held dialogues with BNP, Jatiya Party, Liberal Democratic Party and Krishak Sramik Janata League on formation of the next election commission.
Tenure of the present Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad-led incumbent EC will expire in February next year.
The party, a component in the ruling Awami League-led 14-party grand alliance, also proposed that before enactment of the law, the president forms a search committee comprising of two judges, one each from Appellate Division and High Court division, and individuals who are in constitutional posts.
JSD also recommended for inclusion of a female member in the EC.
