Two persons of a family were shot injured as gunmen opened fire at a Munshiganj-bound human haulier from Nawabganj in Dhaka on the Dhaka-Mawa highway this afternoon.

The injured were identified as Md Shahabuddin, 40, and his nephew Ali Hossain, 20.

They were returning to their village home at Baluartek in Keraniganj following treatment of Shahabuddin’s elder sister Hosne Ara, 42, from Mitford Hospital in Dhaka, Shahabuddin told The Daily Star.

Six people in three motorbikes suddenly shot five to six rounds of bullets at the human haulier near Shamsu Filling Station at Abdullahpur on the highway around 1:00pm, said Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Dakkhin Keraniganj Police Station.

The reason behind the attack could not be ascertained yet, the police official said.

“Nobody has been arrested so far in this connection and we are conducting drives in this regard,” he added.
