Bangladesh received $1.96 billion in remittance last month
Remittance increased 19.78 percent year-on-year to $1.96 billion in January as expatriate Bangladeshis continued to send their hard-earned money through the banking system, ignoring the illegal channel.
Between the months of July and January this fiscal year, remittance stood at $14.90 billion, up 34.95 percent a year ago, according to data released by the central bank today.
Inward remittance, however, posted below $2 billion in January, which is lower than the previous four months when the expatriates sent more than $2 billion per month.
"Lower remittance received in January is not a matter of concern as the figure is slightly lower than the previous monthly figures," said a central bank official, who is working on the issue.
