Body formed to probe Zaglul's death in crash
A five-member committee was formed today to investigate the road crash that killed renowned journalist Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury at Karwan Bazar in Dhaka last night.
The committee will submit a report after investigation by three working days, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said at a programme in Dhaka’s Manik Mia Avenue.
The probe committee is headed by Moshiur Rahman, director for Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA). Shyamal Dutta, editor of Bangla daily Bhorer Kagoj, is also a member of the body.
Veteran journalist Zaglul was critically injured while trying to get down from the bus near Sonargaon intersection on Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue last night.
He was taken to Mohona Hospital on Green Road and later to Comfort Nursing Home Private Ltd, where doctors declared him dead around 8:30pm.
Marif Mahmood, nephew of Zaglul, told The Daily Star that his uncle’s first namaz-e-janaja will be held at Banani central mosque around 11:00am tomorrow.
Zaglul’s daughter Antora Ahmed Chowdhury, who lives in US, will arrive in Dhaka tomorrow morning.
His (Zaglul) second namaz-e-janaja will be held at Jatiya Press Club tomorrow followed by burial beside his mother’s grave at Azimpur after Zohr prayer.
The body of Zaglul, a former chief editor and managing director of the state-run Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), has been kept at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University mortuary.
He was last serving as consulting editor of the Financial Express.
