Sana 14th in qualification
Archer Ruman Sana finished 14th in the qualification round of the men’s individual recurve event in the 21st Asian Archery Championships, which got underway in Bangkok yesterday.
Ruman, who qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, made a mediocre 660 out of 720 among 84 participants to get a first-round bye. He will play 51th-ranked Florante Matan of Philippines in the second round.
Apart from Ruman, Tamimul Islam, Hakim Ahmed Rubel and Sakib Mollah finished 23rd, 50th and 55th respectively after scoring 651, 626 and 621.
Sakib later beat Bhutan’s Lam Dorji by 6-0 set points while Rubel outshot Philippines’ Moreno Luis Gabriel by 6-2 set points to advance into the second round. Tamimul will play 71st-ranked Sung Hyok Kim of North Korea next.
In the women’s individual recurve event, Mehnaz Akter Monira, Nasrin Akter, Iti Khatun and Beauty Roy finished 20th, 44th, 52nd and 60th respectively after scoring 636, 614, 608 and 590 in qualification.
Beauty defeated Sharbekova Asel of Kyrgyzstan 7-1 and Iti beat Wu Sze Yan of Hong Kong 6-0 to move into the second round, where Monira and Nasir advanced directly.
In the qualification round of the men’s individual compound event, Ashim Kumar Das finished 23rd with a score of 690 while Mohammad Ashiquzzaman, Sohel Rana and Siam Siddik finished 26th, 30th and 35th respectively.
Ashim, Sohel and Sohel Rana moved into the second with wins while Siam and Ashiquzzaman were eliminated after losing their first-round matches.
