All locals in three finals
All focus will be on the final of mixed doubles in Yonex-Sunrise Bangladesh International Junior competition when hosts Bangladesh and neighbouring India square off at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium today.
The home side had earlier confirmed all medals in men's singles, doubles and women's doubles by sending all overseas opponents packing from either group stage or knockout stage. The hosts would have even ensured all medals in five events had they beaten their overseas opponents in women's singles and mixed doubles today.
But local shuttlers Rahima Jarin and Urmi Akter were eliminated from the semifinals of women's singles, leaving the final between top seed Ruhi Raju of USA and second-seed Treesa Jolly of India. Ruhi beat Rahima 21-5, 21-3 while Treesa beat Urmi 21-6, 21-8.
In mixed doubles, the Gourav Singha and Urmi Akter pair beat compatriots Mangal Singha and Fabin Binte Emdad pair 21-12, 21-8 to set up the final clash against Indian pair of Manav Raj and Treesa Jolly, who comfortably beat Bangladesh's Abdul Hamid Lokman and Rasma Akter pair pair.
Meanwhile, top seed Lokman and second seed Sibghat Ullah moved into men's singles final beating compatriots Gourav and Abdus Soud respectively while the Hanif Mohammad and Lokman pair and the Gourav and Mangal pair advanced into the final of men's doubles.
In women's doubles, the Rasma and Urmi pair and the Rahima Jarin and Kamelia Islam pair ensured final berths.
