Sabuz, Pappu among 26 for Qatar, India ties
The Bangladesh Football Federation yesterday announced a 26-member preliminary squad for next month’s World Cup Qualifying fixtures against Qatar and India with the inclusion of two new players --goalkeeper Pappu Ahmed and veteran striker Tawhidul Alam Sabuz.
Coach Jamie Day pinned hopes on all 23 members who were part of the first match against Afghanistan on September 10 and called up Mohammedan goalkeeper Pappu and Bashundhara Kings’ Sabuz along with Sheikh Jamal defender Manjurur Rahman Manik, who was also in the 26-member preliminary squad for the Afghanistan match from which goalkeeper Mazharul Islam Himel and defender Nurul Nayeem Faisal were also dropped.
The training camp of the national team is scheduled to get underway from September 25 in Dhaka as Bangladesh will play their home match against Qatar on October 10 and face India in Kolkata on October 15.
