12 Mohammedan footballers and coach test Covid-19 positive
Mohammedan Sporting Club's 12 footballers and Australian coach Sean Lane tested Covid-19 positive, forcing the popular outfit to seek the deferment of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) fixtures for 14 days.
Nine of the 12 players who tested positive are regular starters of Mohammedan, confirmed the club's director and football secretary Abu Hasan Chowdhury Prince today.
"As the requirements of the federation, the players, coaching and supporting staff underwent Covid-19 tests before the league resumes on June 25. Four players, coach and four ball boys tested positive on Saturday and seven more players tested positive today [Monday]," Prince told The Daily Star today.
"We are scheduled to play Abahani on June 25 and then the next match against Bashundhara Kings but now it is not possible to field the squad. We will submit a letter to the federation tomorrow requesting to defer our matches for 14 days as the players and others have been quarantined," said Prince.
