Young Tigers lose series to Sri Lanka
Bangladesh U-19s suffered a series defeat against their Sri Lankan counterparts following a three-wicket loss in the third match of the five-match one-day series in Dambulla today.
The young Tigers have lost all three games they have played so far in the series. Today the hosts chased down Bangladesh's target of 184 with three wickets and 3.2 overs to spare.
Batting first after winning the toss, a rear-guard action saw Bangladesh escape from a struggling 71 for 7 to a moderately challenging total, courtesy of a half-century from the number nine batter Ashikur Zaman. Vinuja Ranpul and Raveen de Silva each scalped three wickets apiece for the young Lankans.
In reply, Sri Lanka were in a spot of bother when both openers were dismissed early on by Mushfik Hasan. Sri Lanka's reply was further destabilised when the hosts found themselves in a precarious position at 122 for seven in chase of Bangladesh's 184.
However, an unbeaten 117-ball 85 from the top-order batter Shevon Daniel and an unbeaten 38-run knock from number nine Wanuja Sahan saw the Lankans reach the target without any further loss of wickets. Mushfik was the pick of the bowlers for the young Tigers with three wickets while Ahosan Habib, making his debut for Bangladesh, chipped in with two for an economical 24 runs of his ten overs.
The fourth and fifth match of the series is scheduled to be played on October 23 and 25, respectively, at the same venue.
