Now I understand why people ask so many questions: Mahmud
Team director Khaled Mahmud is on a break from his role for the ongoing series against India and said that he now realises why people ask questions of the team's method from the outside after he himself followed the game outside of the team's environment this series.
"I am always part of the team whether I am staying with them or not. Ofcourse when you are with the side, you are being there in a more focused manner. But we are still talking and communicating," Mahmud told the media today.
The BCB director said that he understands the excitement and passion for the game from those watching from the outside.
"But also being on the field during winning occasions is a thing of great happiness. Actually it's been a while since I saw the team from the outside and that was a big experience for me in terms of how excited people are to see the Bangladesh team play. When I receive calls and when people ask me about certain things regarding why something happened or didn't happen. Now I understand how excited people get and why they ask so many questions," he said.
While there were some confusion regarding Mahmud's break, he said: "Actually it's been a busy time and everyone has their own personal things to take care of. Very little time is available. There are a lot of cricket coming up and this time frame was very important to me and that's why I took the break. I was supposed to take the break earlier. This series is at home. It will be more important to be with the team in away series. Although we are not allowed in the dressing room, we are close by," he said.
The team director praised Mustafizur Rahman's effort in the death overs in the second ODI where he kept Rohit Sharma at bay by first keeping him off-strike in the 48th over before holding his nerve in the final over.
"We showed strong nerves yesterday. I salute Mustafizur for how he bowled the 48th over and didn't let them hit the ball and didn't let Rohit Sharma get the strike. The way he held his nerve in the last over and won us the game was very important," he said.
Liton Das was handed the captaincy following injury to Tamim Iqbal and the team director said he was really impressed by the positive nature of Liton's captaincy.
"I am very much fond of Liton Das. I think he is a very sensible cricketer and a knowledgeable guy. He led from the front. The way he captained and showed brevity with aggressive captaincy was tremendous. I always like aggressive captaincy, those who analyse the situation in a captaincy role. I would say Liton's leadership is hundred out of hundred," he said.
Bangladesh will take on India in the third and final ODI on December 10, hoping for a clean-sweep having already clinched the series 2-0.
