‘Don’t understand the stringent rules regarding Mushfiqur’s bubble’
Bangladesh's Mushfiqur Rahim, one of the team's most important batsman in the T20 format, was unable to be included in the bio-bubble for the upcoming series against Australia due to the protocols CA (Cricket Australia) asked Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to meet. Mushfiqur had to leave the bio bubble in Zimbabwe on July 14th due to family emergency and did not qualify for the bubble. Head coach Russell Domingo did not understand why such stringent rules were placed on Mushfiqur's participation.
The cutoff date for Mushfiqur to enter the bio bubble was July 20th but after he did not manage to enter the bubble by then, the talks regarding Mushfiqur's inclusion between BCB and CA did not bear fruit.
"I can't understand the stringent rules Australia placed on Mushfiqur's bubble. I think 10 days would have surely been enough. It's very disappointing the way they went about it," said Domingo during a press conference today.
However, Domingo dictated that it was an opportunity for the youngsters to develop themselves against a team like Australia with the T20 World Cup coming later this year.
"Trying to find out our best combination and playing against Australia will give us that opportunity. There are two ways to look at it. Trying to find out our best combination and keep developing some of the younger players. Secondly Bangladesh don't play Australia too often. So this is a big series for us and we are really determined to do well in it," Domingo said.
"But look, we want to play against the best team in the world and it's an opportunity for one or two younger players or fringe players to come and play, and I am sure they are capable of it. No Mushfiqur is surely a loss for us but we have got a big squad and some quality players to replace him," he said.
