Tamim sidelined again?
Tigers' Test and T20I skipper Shakib Al Hasan, who grew out his beard after performing Hajj earlier this year, was seen sporting a clean shaved look yesterday. As the all-rounder walked out of the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium gymnasium in Mirpur, this curious reporter asked him the reason behind this new look. Shakib explained: "I was only going to trim my beard the other day but I accidentally applied too much pressure on one side and that basically shaved me clean on that spot. So I had no other options but to shave it completely." He did add, though, with a smile that he was willing to regrow the beard. "Hopefully I will be able to grow my beard by the next two weeks."
What could have been a good day for Bangladesh cricket fans turned into a sour one as chief selector Minhajul Abedin informed yesterday that Tamim Iqbal has sustained a side strain injury. Minhajul was hopeful for the left-handers return ahead of the upcoming series against West Indies but this latest turn of events threw a spanner in the works.
It was learned that Tamim, who only recently started batting again, endured some pain after practice in the nets on Monday. The pain then became more severe yesterday when he once again attempted to bat.
"We will wait to announce the Test squad for the West Indies series until the second Test between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe is over. Since Tamim faced a side strain injury we are also waiting for the doctor's report," Minhajul told media yesterday.
According to different sources, Tamim will be under observation for the next 48 hours while it was also learned that the physio recommended the left-hander to avoid batting for the next five days.
Meanwhile, Tigers Test and T20I skipper Shakib Al Hasan started to grip the bat from yesterday following his return from Melbourne last month. Shakib travelled to Australia to consult a doctor there over his left-hand's injured little finger, which he sustained in January this year.
"He [Shakib Al Hasan] has just started to grip the bat from today [yesterday]. We will be able to understand how far his situation has improved after tomorrow as there has been a huge gap since he suffered the injury. The physio is expected to give a report on him tomorrow [today] and we will be able to take a decision after that.
Minhajul also informed that they will announce the Test squad for the West Indies series tomorrow. The visitor's tour will consist of a two-match Test series, a three-match ODI series and a three-match T20I series. The first of the two Tests will begin on November 22 in Chattogram.
West Indies, led by Jason Holder, are expected to arrive in two groups. The first group will fly for Chattogram immediately after landing in Dhaka.
