The Daily Star journo wins Family Planning Media Award 2020
A journalist of The Daily Star has been named the winner of the "Family Planning Media Award 2020" arranged by the Directorate General of Family Planning (DGFP) today.
The newspaper's reporter, Nilima Jahan, has been selected for the award for her excellence in reporting on family planning, maternal and child health, and sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) issues.
The names of a total of six winning journalists have been announced at the virtual "World Population Day 2020" celebration programme, organised by the Information, Education and Motivation (IEM) unit of the DGFP.
The other winning journalists are Sajida Islam Parul of The Daily Samakal, Sharful Alam of ATN Bangla, Hasan Sohel of The Daily Inqilab, Razu Ahmed of GTV and Synthia Kainath Nur of Bangladesh Post.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque congratulated the winners at the programme. Each will receive a certificate, crest and prize money of Tk 50,000.
Apart from that, a total of 40 media personnel from print, electronic and online portals, cartoonists and artists were selected for the "Family Planning Media Fellowship-2020". The names of the fellows were also announced at the programme, each of whom will receive Tk 50,000 as honorarium for the successful completion of the fellowship. Nilima Jahan from The Daily Star was one of the fellows as well.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque was the chief guest of the programme, while Health Services Division's Secretary Md Abdul Mannan, UNFPA Bangladesh representative Dr Asa Torkelsson, Director General of DGFP Sahan Ara Banu, among others, spoke to the event. The event was presided over by Md Ali Noor, the Health Education Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
