Oishee charged with killing parents

Detective Branch of police yesterday pressed charges against Oishee Rahman of killing her parents, Special Branch of Police inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and Swapna Rahman, in August last year.
Three others -- domestic help Khadiza Akter Sumi, 11, and Oishee's two friends Asaduzzaman Jony, 27, and Mizanur Rahman Roni, 25, -- have also been charged with the double murder.
The bodies of Mahfuzur and his wife were recovered at their Chamelibagh residence in the capital on August 16 last year.
DB Inspector Abul Khair Matubbar, the investigation officer of the murder case, submitted two charge sheets -- one against Oishee, Jony and Roni and another against Sumi -- before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka.
According to the charge sheets, Oishee alone killed her parents, Jony instigated the murders and Rony gave her shelter after the incident. Sumi has been accused of assisting Oishee in concealing the bodies.
Oishee's brother Ohidur Rahman and 56 other people were named as witnesses in the charge sheets.
A separate charge sheet against Sumi was submitted because she is now under 18 and so her trial will be held in a juvenile court.
Oishee, who had taken her O-level exams, turned herself in to Paltan police on August 17, a day after the bodies were recovered. She was later remanded.
While making a confessional statement before a magistrate on August 24 last year, she said she alone had killed her parents and Sumi helped her hide the bodies.
Sumi also confessed to helping Oishee.
The charge sheets will be placed before the court on April 8 for taking them into cognizance.
Oishee used to be very affectionate towards her parents as she was the couple's first child, according to a charge sheet. However, she gradually became fascinated by the outside world and enjoyed excess of freedom.
She lost her ties with the family after she had got into bad company, like Jony and Rony, the investigator says in the charge sheet.
Oishee began considering that her parents' behaviour towards her was inhumane. In the meantime, Jony offered to go to Dubai with her together for a dance performance. Two or three months before the killing, Oishee asked her father to give her Tk 30,000 but her father refused. He also did not allow her to go to Dubai.
About a month before the incident, Oishee left her Chamelibagh residence and rented a room at Rampura with the help of Jony and stayed there for 15 days.
When she returned to the Chamelibagh residence, her parents grounded her and forbade her to use the mobile phone. Being confined to home, she secretly communicated with Jony and Rony and planned to kill her parents, according to the charge sheet.
The IO, however, did not find Oishee's connection with drugs.
After the killing, Oishee along with her brother Ohidur and domestic help Sumi left the residence with money and gold ornaments and stayed with her friend Trisha in Kakrail until she surrendered.
The charge sheet also said the couple had been given seven sedatives mixed in tea or coffee before they were killed.
