Knight Riders go top of CPL with win over Patriots
Mahmudullah Riyad’s St Kitts and Nevis Patriots slumped to their second defeat in a row as Trinbago Knight Riders continued their push for the CPL crown after a 46-run victory propelled them to the top of the table, level on points with Guyana Amazon Warriors and Jamaica Tallawahs.
Colin Munro struck his fourth fifty in this season’s CPL, scoring a 50-ball 76, but it was Dwayne Bravo’s 11-ball 37-run cameo which propelled the Kninght Riders to a total of 199 for four. Bravo hit five sixes off youngster Alzarri Joseph in the 19th over which took the match away from Patriots.
22-year-old debutant Anderson Philipp then got the wicket of Chris Gayle in the fifth over of Patriots’ chase. Evin Lewis was the only notable contributor, hitting a 37-ball 52 before Philipp got him out leg-before. Mahmudullah, coming in to bat at number seven remained unbeaten on 2 as Patriots managed to reach 153 for eight.
