DU student handed over to police
The Dhaka University authorities yesterday handed a student over to Shahbagh police as he allegedly made “derogatory” comments on Facebook about Awami League, BCL and a member of Bangabandhu's family.
Rafsan Ahmed, a first year student of the Institute of Education and Research (IER), posted, “It's my wish that I would abolish the lineage of Chhatra League as well as Awami League. Then there would be no unrest.”
Besides, he labelled Sheikh Kamal as a “Bank Robber”, in a comment of another post marking the birthday of the son of Bangabandhu, said IER unit BCL president MR Mukul Islam.
After seeing the post, a group of BCL men led by Mukul Islam took him to the proctor's office.
Rafsan made such comments as he had anger towards AL as well as BCL, Mukul quoted him as saying.
Contacted, Proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbani said the student has been handed over to police for quizzing under ICT Act. Officer-in-Charge Abul Hasan acknowledged the detention.
