DNCC pledges to clean wastes in 24hrs
Dhaka North City Corporation today pledged to clean the streets from the waste of Eid-ul-Azha, where people will be sacrificing animals, within 24 hours.
North city panel Mayor Md Jamal Mostafa made the announcement today, placing estimates that about 2.32 lakh sacrificial animals will be slaughtered this year.
He called upon the city dwellers not to slaughter sacrificial animals on the roads or by the drains at a press conference arranged at Dhaka North City Corporation office.
A total of 9,500 cleaners (including 2,700 of the city corporation's own), would be deployed to clean the city on the day of Eid, he said. A total of 150 wastes carrying trucks, 19 dump trucks, 11 water sprayers and five payloaders will be ready.
The panel mayor also said that his office campaigned massively – distributing 3.65 lakh leaflets – as cleanliness awareness programme.
"The city corporation has set up 183 slaughter sites in its area with all required facilities including water supply," said Chief Executive Officer Md Mesbahul Islam.
It is to be noted that Dhaka South City Corporation yesterday announced its promise to clean up the streets within 24 hours after the animal slaughters.
