Transport workers' strike postponed in Sylhet
After hours of suffering of commuters, transport workers have postponed their indefinite strike till October 15 after a meeting with the administration last evening (September 13, 2022).
Ali Akbar Rajan, joint general secretary of Sylhet District Bus Minibus Coach Microbus Sramik Union, said, "After getting assurance from the administration, we postponed the strike till October 15."
Earlier in the evening at 8pm, a meeting presided by Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Dr Muhammad Mosarrof Hossain was organised at the Circuit House in Sylhet. After the meeting ended at around 10pm, the transport workers postponed the strike, reports our Sylhet correspondent.
Earlier, they started an indefinite strike from 6am on a five-point demand. All types of public transport were halted in Sylhet district while the transport workers created obstruction to private vehicles and BRTC services.
Mainul Islam, president of Sylhet District Bus Minibus Workers' Union, said, "The administration has assured to accept all our demands by October 15 and the police harassment will be stopped from tomorrow."
"Taking the administration's assurance in account, along with considering the sufferings of the SSC examinees and Durga Puja devotees, we have announced the suspension of the strike till October 15," he said.
