Reinstate 5% quota in govt jobs for indigenous people: Rights group
A team of Bangladesh Adivasi Quota Sangrakkhan Parishad placed a memorandum to the Prime Minister's Office for reinstating the five percent quota system in first and second class government jobs for indigenous people.
Before submitting the letter, a group of the parishad activists gathered at Dhaka University's Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) this morning, our DU correspondent reports.
Around 50 activists brought out a procession from the TSC and were scheduled to go to the PMO around 11:30 am. Later the rally was barred by police personnel in front of Bangladesh National Museum in Shahbagh. After holding the rally there, a five-member team of the parishad went to the PMO and submitted the memorandum.
Later they declared a programme to be held at TSC for next Friday demanding the same rights.
The parishad placed three demands, including reinstatement of the five percent quota in government jobs for indigenous people. The results of indigenous candidates, under the 40th BCS, must be reexamined according to the quota system, they demanded.
Alik Mree, member secretary of Adivasi Quota Sangrakkhan Parishad, spoke at the rally.
