National polls under neutral government
Claiming that the next national election will not be fair and acceptable if it is held under a partisan government, Islami Andolon Bangladesh today demanded the election be held under a polls-time national government participated by all political parties.
"The ruling party wants to hold a controlled election ... If the election is held under a partisan government by retaining the incumbent parliament, it will not be fair and acceptable. Rather it will be a farce in the name of election like the 2014 and 2018 [national] polls," said Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, ameer of IAB.
Rezaul Karim, popularly known as Charmonai Pir, made the demand during a press conference held at the party's central office in Paltan.
He said they want the current parliament to be dissolved and an acceptable national election within the next 90 days with participation of all parties under the election-time national government.
To ensure "peaceful transition of power" IAB placed a five-point proposition at the press conference including formation of a polls-time national government before the tenure of the parliament expires.
Rezaul criticised the chief election commissioner for his failure and a recent remark of the latter (did he die?). He called the CEC an "inconsiderate" and "senseless" man.
The IAB also announced to organise a protest march towards the EC Bhaban on Wednesday demanding the resignation of the CEC
It will also hold a discussion with representatives of political parties, alem-ulemas, journalists, and intellectuals to explore ways to overcome the existing political crisis and ensure a free, fair and impartial national polls on June 24.
