‘AL has become an oppressive party’
Awami League, which once fought for the rights of the people, has now become a party that exploits and oppresses people, alleged BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday.
He made the comments while talking to the reporters at his Kalibari residence in the town.
He said, "I mentioned before that Awami League has become politically bankrupt and now it has become isolated from people as it is engrossed in corruption."
He said AL is exploiting the whole country by conspiring with a few individuals and bureaucrats.
Asked about BNP's position on the Taliban issue, Fakhrul said, "I don't have much to say about the issue… it's happening in Afghanistan. The country will run the way that their people want."
"But I would like to say one thing, we do not support fundamentalism, militancy or extremism."
At present, BNP's only demand from the government is to hold a credible election through a neutral government after stepping down from power, Fakhrul said.
He said they are talking to various political parties to come under one platform to wage a movement for removing the government.
