Won’t respond to BNP MP’s query on Boat Club presidency: IGP Benazir
Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed today said he would not respond to a lawmaker's query on whether he has government permission to be president of the much-talked about Boat Club.
"IGP will not react to what he has said as a member of the parliament ... It is not fair, logical or legal," he said while replying to a question at a programme.
Benazir was speaking to reporters at Police Headquarters after inaugurating a training programme for all police members.
The IGP, however, said he would give answer if anyone wants to know about it personally.
On Friday, BNP lawmaker Harunur Rashid, in parliament, demanded that the home minister address whether Boat Club has government approval and whether the IGP has the government's permission to be the club's president.
He made the demand while speaking on a point of order.
"I don't know whether any chief of the police department ever became a member or had responsibilities in establishing any such club in the 50-year history of Bangladesh," he told the session with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
