6 cases filed over violence on Dhaka-Ctg highway
Police filed six cases last night (August 23, 2022) with Sitakunda police station in Chattogram in connection with the violence on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway.
Each case was filed against 45 named and 150 unnamed persons for different charges including attacking police, obstructing them from discharging duties, blocking highway and vandalism, said Ashraful Karim, additional superintendent of (Sitakunda Circle) of Chattogram District Police.
None was arrested yet, he said.
Residents of Jungle Salimpur area in Sitakunda upazila blocked the Dhaka-Chattogram highway for five hours yesterday, demanding restoration of electricity and water supply which was cut off by the administration over illegal connection.
Hundreds of people were stuck on the highway following the blockade in Foujdarhat area.
A clash broke out between two groups of demonstrators. Police later charged baton and dispersed them.
Chattogram district administration said illegal occupiers grabbed khas land in hill areas and constructed residential buildings by damaging the hills.
To stop the land grabbing there, the administration has taken on a master development plan in the area and started eviction of illegal occupiers.
