Five Bangladeshi have returned to the country via Benapole border today (September 9, 2022) after serving one-year jail term in India.
They were handed over to Benapole Immigration Police through a special travel permit, reports our Benapole correspondent quoting Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge of Benapole Check-post Immigration Police.
The returnees are Ashrafuzzaman (25), Shafiqul Islam (35), Sorat Gazi (34), Motiur Rahman (38) and Dilip Mandal. OC Abul Kalam said they went to India through brokers for a better life a year ago.
"They were arrested from Chennai. Later, a court sentenced them to one-year imprisonment. After the completion of their jail terms in Chennai jail in India, the home ministries of the two countries sent them back to the country through Benapole this evening through special travel permits after exchanging a series of letters," he added.
Jashore Justice and Care Centre received them from the police and they will handed them over to their respective family members, said the OC.
