Physicians lack sincerity in serving people: health secretary
Despite the government's initiatives to upgrade the country's healthcare facilities, the physicians lack sincerity in serving patients, Secretary of the Health Services Division Md Anwar Hossain Howlader said today.
"In few hospitals it happens that physicians gossip. They don't pay attention to the patients, which should not happen..." Howlader said while addressing the inaugural session of a conference on sexual and reproductive rights.
International Centre for Diarrheal Disease and Research (icddr,b) organised the event at a city hotel.
Howlader said access to sexual and reproductive healthcare is the right of every person. "So, we have to ensure a friendly hospital environment so that people are not harassed while seeking healthcare services."
At the event, two eminent gynaecologists -- National Professor Shahla Khatun and Prof TA Chowdhury -- and public health experts Halida Hanum Akter received SRHR (Sexual and Reproductive Health) Excellence Award 2023 for their contribution to the sexual and reproductive health sector. Physicians and public health researchers from different organisations participated in the daylong scientific sessions.
At the event, young researchers presented their proposals and innovative ideas, which may contribute to ensure access of patients, particularity to the key population like sex workers, transgenders and drug addicts, to sexual and reproductive healthcare.
