Youths attack bus in Jashore: 20 female students, 3 teachers, among others injured
At least 25 people, including 20 female students, were injured when some unruly youths carried out an attack on a bus while the students were returning home after taking a Covid-19 vaccine shot in Jashore's Keshabpur upazila yesterday.
Of the injured, 20 were female students, three teachers, one village police personnel and a bus driver, reports our Benapole correspondent quoting Borhan Uddin, officer-in-charge of Kesabpur Police Station.
The incident took place at Pajia area on Kesabpur-Kolagachi road, said the OC.
Quoting locals and eyewitnesses, the OC said a total of 78 teachers and students of Katakhali High School were returning home on a bus after taking Covid-19 vaccine.
"On the way home, an altercation broke out between the bus driver and some unruly youths. Following the altercation, the youths blocked the bus and started beating the driver," the OC said, adding that when the students and teachers came forward to save the driver, they were also beaten where at least 25 were injured.
All the injured received treatment from a local hospital, said Malay Kumar, headmaster of Katakhali High School.
On information, police rushed to the spot and arrested two youths -- Eklash and Khairul Islam -- conducting a drive, informed the OC.
Action would be taken as per law, he added.
Meanwhile, the school authority has filed a case in connection with the incident.
