Take legal action against 'fake' doctors, HC tells govt
The High Court today directed the government to take appropriate legal action against 'fake' doctors who have no valid certificate and registration for their practice.
The president of Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) and inspector general of police (IGP) have been ordered to submit a report to the HC after complying with the directive in three months.
The HC also issued a rule asking officials why they should not be asked to take steps for amending sections 22(2) and 28(1)(3) of the Medical and Dental Council Act, 2010 for enhancing the current punishment for 'fake' doctors.
The HC bench of Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice Mohammad Ali issued the order and rule following a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Md JR Khan Robin seeking necessary directives on this issue.
He submitted the petition as a public interest litigation to the HC on November 29 this year seeking its directive on the government to amend the relevant law, enhancing punishment for 'fake' doctors.
Petitioner JR Khan Robin moved the petition while Deputy Attorney General Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar represented the state at the hearing of the petition today.
