Swechchhasebak League activist hacked to death 'by rival group'
A Swechchhasebak League activist was hacked to death allegedly by his rivals in the capital's Darussalam area last night.
The deceased was identified as Shah Alam, 32, son of freedom fighter Syed Ali, said Assistant Sub-Inspector Abdul Gafur of Darussalam Police Station.
Shah Alam was declared dead by doctors around 12:00 midnight after being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
ASI Gafur said there were clashes between two rival groups of Swechchhasebak League last night, and police detained two people over the incident.
They are being interrogated on suspicion of involvement in the murder, he added.
Shah Alam's friend Md Hridoy said the Swechchhasebak League activist was returning home from work last night. On the way, men of a rival group attacked him with sharp weapons him near Shaheed Buddhijbi Graveyard area around 10:00pm.
Shah Alam was first taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. From there, he was brought to DMCH where the doctor declared him dead, he added.
