Speech-impaired youth dies after attack over football match in Jashore
A speech-impaired youth was dead after being attacked over a football match in Jhikargachha upazila of Jashore yesterday. Two others were also injured in the incident.
The deceased was identified as Nayan Hossain (22), son of Shahidul Islam of Taura village in Jhikargachha upazila, our correspondent reports quoting police.
Quoting locals and eyewitnesses, Jhikargachha Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Abdur Razzak, said that a football match was held at a local playground yesterday noon. There was a dispute between the two teams over a foul and scoring a goal.
Later yesterday, a group of 15 people led by Sarwar -- member of Ward-6 of Panisara Union Parishad -- and his son Bokul beat up and stabbed players of the opponent team, leaving three people injured, said locals.
Later, locals rescued them and admitted them to Jhikargachha Upazila Health Complex. Nayan and another injured, Zahurul, were transferred to Jashore General Hospital where the doctors declared Nayan dead.
Abdur Razzak told The Daily Star that police have not yet detained anyone involved in the incident.
Nayan's body has been sent to Jashore General Hospital Morgue for autopsy, said the OC, adding that, preparations to file a case in this regard is underway.
