Rohingya leader Mohib Ullah murder: ARSA commander held
Armed Police Battalion (APBn) has arrested the chief commander of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) Ulama branch from a Rohingya refugee camp in Ukhiya upazila of Cox's Bazar.
The arrestee, Zakaria (55), allegedly issued the fatwa for the assassination of Rohingya leader Mohib Ullah, said superintendent of police Naimul Haque, also commander of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn-14).
Zakaria was arrested from Lambasia camp-1 of Ukhiya's Kutupalong around 7pm yesterday, Naimul Haque told our Cox's Bazar staff correspondent.
SP Naimul also said Zakaria came to Bangladesh from Myanmar in 2015 and started living in the Lambasia area from 2017.
He has been serving as the chief commander of the Ulama branch of ARSA since 2020, said the SP.
Zakaria had a rivalry with Mohib Ullah and went in hiding after Mohib Ullah's assassination, said SP Naimul Haque.
Police arrested Zakaria from Lambasia camp after a four-month-long effort.
He is considered the top adviser to the perpetrators in the Rohingya camp, said the police official, adding that the process to take legal steps against him is underway, he added.
