Nine arrested with crystal meth, yaba in Dhaka
Detectives arrested nine alleged drug peddlers yesterday along with 88,000 pieces of yaba and 500 grams of crystal meth from Dhaka's Mohammadpur and Jatrabari area.
The arrestees are: Nazim Uddin, Abbas Uddin, Nasir Uddin, Sheuli Akter, Kohinur Begum, Sanjit Das, Hasan Ali, Rashida Begum and Mousumi Akter.
The yaba and crystal meth were smuggled into the country through border with Myanmar. Those were later brought to Dhaka, AKM Hafiz Akhter, additional commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told a press briefing at DMP Media Centre today.
Crystal meth is a powerful drug that affects the central nervous system. It comes in the form of clear crystals or shiny blue-white rocks.
The highly addictive drug, also called "ice", is expensive and its users are usually affluent people from upscale Dhaka areas, detectives have said.
