Man arrested for tearing clothes of university students on moving bus in Savar
Police arrested a middle-aged man for allegedly tearing dresses of two female students of Jahangirnagar University from behind on a moving bus in Savar, Dhaka today.
The arrestee is Md Harun-or-Rashid (53) of Rayed area under Kapasia Police Station of Gazipur, reports our Savar correspondent.
Talking to this correspondent, one of the victims said around 11 am, she and her cousin boarded a bus from the marginal gate of Jahangirnagar University in Savar to go to Azimpur in the capital.
When the bus reached Hemayatpur area, she felt a touch on her body from behind and saw several parts of her dress were cut in her back. At this time, she saw Harun-or-Rashid hurrying up from the back seat and started shouting.
Harun was later held with the help of other passengers of the bus, she said.
After his detention, the man was taken to the Hemayatpur Police Box. He was later handed over to Savar Model Police Station.
The victim said she is a masters' student of Jahangirnagar University. Her cousin is also student of the same university for evening course (MBA).
Kazi Mainul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Savar Model Police Station, told The Daily Star that a man involved in the incident was detained by the mob and handed over to the police. One of the victims filed a case against the arrestee in this regard. The matter is being looked into, he added.
